“Well,” I said to Wanda, standing up at the end of our session, “I’ll see you next week, Love.”
“Okay, Honey,” she replied.
I laughed.
“What’s so funny?” she asked.
“I called you ‘Love’ and you called me ‘Honey.'”
She laughed.
I walked out of the room smiling.
Sounds like a genuinely affectionate interaction, no indication of “elderspeak” at all 😉
Thanks for sharing. Your blog inspires me every time. I am becoming more and more tempted to start writing…
You’re right, C, Wanda and I have known each other a long time and our endearments came as a natural outgrowth of our relationship. I’m glad my blog inspires you — your comments and those of others inspire me to keep blogging! I find writing about my work energizes it.
If you build it (good rapport), “POETIC LICENSE” will come!
Genie, building good rapport reaps many, many rewards.
